Dr. Savannah
Marshall Moscon
Neuroscientist
I am a scientist, leader, and yoga instructor passionate about inspiring sustainable lifestyles for both personal well-being and the health of our planet.
My background in science and research taught me the value of small, intentional changes and how they can create meaningful, lasting impacts. Whether analyzing complex problems in the lab or navigating rapidly evolving research fields, I’ve learned that curiosity and adaptability are key to driving progress.
My leadership experience in sustainability projects sparked my passion for creating change beyond the scientific sphere. From founding programs to promote eco-friendly lab practices to building campus-wide recycling initiatives, I’ve seen firsthand how collective effort and education can transform communities and encourage people to think differently about their habits.
Through my yoga training, I’ve discovered how sustainability isn’t just an external goal—it’s also deeply personal. Connecting the mind and body has shown me how intentional living can foster balance, resilience, and a sense of harmony within ourselves.

Leadership & Involvement
Founder & Chair, Graduate Student Association Sustainability Committee
2021 - 2024
I founded the Sustainability Committee based on the lack of sustainability education/awareness/information given to researchers. This committee serves to promote sustainable practices among graduate students, both in their labs and at home. The teams' initiatives include distributing monthly infographics on eco-friendly habits, coordinating a campus-wide ice pack recycling program, organizing clothing swaps, and introducing lab sustainability training into New Student Orientation.
Founder & Chair, College of Medicine Green Team
2021 - 2024
I founded this team to united students, staff, and facilities employees in sustainability conversations to streamline communication and maximize participation in campus-wide sustainability projects and education.
Associate Editor, Lions Talk Science Blog
2023 - 2024
I edited and refined student-submitted articles for Lions Talk Science, a student-run blog, while also offering my expertise to students working on grants, manuscripts, and course assignments. My work contributed to the platform’s mission of making science accessible and engaging.
My Green Lab Coordinator
2023 - 2024
I spearheaded efforts to guide my lab through Penn State’s Sustainable Lab Pilot Program, a project designed to inspire change in research practices through completion of the My Green Lab Certification. By assessing lab behaviors and creating tailored recommendations, I helped implement sustainable strategies that aligned with the program’s vision for eco-conscious research environments.
My Green Lab Ambasador
2022- Present
After completing rigorous training on sustainable lab practices, I became a My Green Lab Ambassador, advocating for eco-friendly research practices and helping others adopt sustainable habits in their labs.
College of Medicine Sustainability Council
2020 - 2024
As a council member, I helped streamline communication between sustainability-focused groups and organized events to promote eco-conscious initiatives across the College of Medicine campus.
Founder & Chair, Covid Cares Committee
2020 - 2022
In response to the challenges of quarantine, I established and led the Covid Cares Committee. This team of student volunteers assisted peers by running essential errands, such as grocery shopping and prescription pickups, to support those isolating due to COVID-19.
Chair, Graduate Student Association Social Events Coordinator
2020 - 2021
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I organized a series of virtual events aimed at improving graduate students' mental and social well-being. These events provided much-needed opportunities for connection during an isolating time.
Nittany Chemical Society
2017 - 2019
I worked to inspire a love for science by organizing career development sessions, delivering hands-on experiments to underfunded schools, and planning activities to educate children about chemistry.
Volunteer, Penn State Dance Marathon (THON)
2017 - 2019
dedicated countless hours to Penn State’s THON, the world’s largest student-run philanthropy supporting pediatric cancer. My roles included working on the OPPerations and Rules & Regulations Committees, alongside volunteering over 40 hours during the 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon.
National Society of Leadership & Success (NSLS)
2016 - 2019
I was selected for NSLS based on my academic achievements and leadership potential. After completing comprehensive leadership training, I became an active member of this esteemed organization.
